If Only, If Only …

While I know it is not possible, 

  If Only it were plausible;

Rewrite my wrongs, restore my path, 

Redo things in the aftermath.

My heart cries out a bellowing sound;

The burden echos,

 over and over I’ve found.

No-I cannot forget, 

Sorrows of my past regret. 

Deepest remorse, pains that ache; 

 The blame is mine I cannot shake.

 

 If Only I could,

 Redo, restore, renew,

 I would.

But all the same-

 I cannot mend,

 this shattered frame.

Choices made rippled through,

Became pains worn by those I love too.

I do not cry just for my remorse, 

But the ones who have been so innocently scorched.

Take this Lord, remove the pains.

 Take the scars, the ashes, the shame.

If only I could make anew, 

choices that scarred others too.

I am sorry,

I did not know!

I did not know how this would go.

If Only I cry and I plea, 

IF ONLY! 

Yet I know it’s not up to me.

Another I trust-It is He.

The one who can set us all free;

 Free from the pain, the shame, and the sorrows,

Of all our yesterdays, and our tomorrows.

His great plan is to restore, 

Renew, redeem forevermore. 

While He rectifies my past blame, 

He lifts and cares for those I’ve lamed.

In You my God, my Lord I rest,

 my soul assured I will attest;

Goodness, love, grace abound,

Those who are lost will surely be found.

You saved me, I am made anew, 

And now it is Your life that flows through.

If Only-Now my last plea,

Those I love would also see;

Grace sufficient and Love complete,

        All found in Christ’s victory!
