When You Are Tempted, Remember God Is Faithful

It was supposed to be a quick procedure. In and out. One night in the hospital. But that’s not what
happened. My son experienced some complications because of a virus, and we were in for a two-week
hospital stay.

To be fair, this wasn’t our first, nor would it be our last lengthy hospitalization, but I felt like this time I
was under direct spiritual attack. I was tempted to doubt God’s goodness, to doubt his faithfulness, and
to give up on my faith. But our God is so faithful. He keeps his promises.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not
let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out
so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

The way out he provided came when I was feeling my most discouraged. The Holy Spirit whispered
specific scriptures that I should write down and post around the hospital room. Later, a friend that I
consider a role model and her husband unexpectedly came to the hospital and took me to dinner. She
encouraged me to act on the Spirit’s prompting and to pray fervently.

So I did just that. I wrote the scriptures and posted them all around the room, got down on my knees
and prayed. I prayed that God would send his angels to protect me and my son from the enemy’s
attacks and that he would heal our spiritual and physical diseases.

What spiritual attacks or temptations are you experiencing in your life? Is God providing a way out? How
is the Holy Spirit leading you to a place of greater trust in God? Sweet friend, ask yourself these
questions and meditate on God’s faithfulness, protection, and providence in your life.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the
earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to
the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men
stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like
eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:28-31)
