Bold and Beautiful Citizenship
20 But [we are different, because] our citizenship is in heaven. And from there we eagerly await [the coming of] the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
Philippians 3:20
Being born again, in the faith, as a believer in Jesus, we are welcomed as citizens of heaven. How can we be a citizen to somewhere we can not see? While it is true that we physically live and see ourselves as citizens here on earth, the life that begins new within us, as believers, creates a whole new bold and beautiful citizenship. We are citizens of heaven! What does this mean? This means we are His and as His, we change and grow into His image. We will not become perfect in this world, but we can stand out. We can be transformed to live in this world, but reflect our new born citizenship by the transformation that Jesus creates within us, through the Holy Spirit ( Romans 12:2 ). It can be difficult to remain a part of a world you no longer feel you belong to, but this is what we must do. As a citizen we long for home and sometimes it is unbearable to live among such opposition, but we are not alone, Jesus is with us ( Matthew 28:20 ). It is with the help of His spirit that we can grow into visible citizens here and now! This dark world needs His beautiful and radiant light and His light shines through His children. To all my fellow citizens, this is God’s call to us! Today live it out and stand out as a citizen of heaven!
