Beauty in the Mundane

BEAUTY IN THE MUNDANE

We all have a daily routine, one that is repetitive and constant. I know for me, mine is overwhelming and exhausting. We rise, day after day, going about the same business as the day before. We wake early only to do dishes, laundry, cook, clean, tend to our children’s needs, tend to our husband’s needs and the needs of anyone or anything that crosses our path. Try having a job outside of that and you will quickly realize the impossible. If the business is the same, day after day, and it is never completed or accomplished, then this can leave us feeling that life is mundane. Mundane is defined as, lacking interest or excitement; dull. When life brings you here, how can you see beauty? God has shown me a different perspective on the mundane in my life, and I hope it resonates with you so you can find the beauty as well. We are the daughters of God, given a purpose in our lives. We are wives, mothers, and examples of the love that God is. We have a calling, one that is difficult if not impossible on our own, but we know that with God all things are possible ( Matthew 19:27). Proverbs 31 describes a Woman of God that is living proof that the beauty is in all she does. This woman is a daughter who diligently seeks out the Lord and His guidance. She is dedicated and obedient to God through love. This woman is a Wife who is trustworthy, reliable and encouraging to her Husband through love. She is a Mother who tends to her Children selflessly, caring for their needs, physically, emotionally and spiritually. She does all this through love. She can serve her community and friends in order to be a blessing to those around her. She does all this through love. Proverbs 31 is describing a woman that we tend to think is a super woman, and not realistic in our world today, but we can all be that woman, even in our so called mundane lives. Scripture tells us that we can do all things through Christ ( Philippians 4:13). If we are called then He will equip. We find our strength, wisdom and ability in Him. He values us and all we do for Him! Jesus explained what the greatest commandment was in Matthew 22:37-40, 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Love is what God commands us to do! Our daily lives are filled with activities, people, and the presence of our God. In all that, He asks, commands us, to love. So I offer this perspective to our so called mundane lives; beauty is in everything because love is in everything. God is love, and He commands us to surrender and allow Him to flow in us and through us. We diligently move throughout our daily lives because He first loved us and through that love we are so graciously able to demonstrate love in our repetitive daily tasks. When we live with Jesus as our focus and serve Him in any way He calls, then we bring beauty to our life, and to the lives of those we serve. Living the life God intended for us, doing all that we do for Him (Colossians 3:23). This is a life that allows the beauty found in Christ to be exhibited in the midst of our mundane. I pray that you are able to replace the mundane with the God inspired beauty that is found in you!
