You Are Not Alone

“This is my command–be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 NLT

Loneliness is a prevalent thing in our world, and most people avoid being alone at all costs. We can find ourselves busy socializing just to avoid the silence that comes when we are alone. This can even lead us to remain in the wrong relationships, and all because we do not want to be alone. We settle for whatever is there. We fill our lives to the point that there is no quiet at all, and we are just fine with that. I don’t know if this describes you, but this was me for many years.

Growing up I often felt alone, even though I come from a large family. You see, feeling alone has more to do with what’s Not on the inside, than what is on the outside. My childhood left me feeling less than safe, and if you know what it is like to be brought up in a broken home, then I am sure you can relate. Add on many other heartbreaking issues and a child in this environment is left to feel uncared for, unloved, and very alone. This is where the mission to fill ourselves comes from. That empty space that was never satisfied.

“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.”

Psalm 27:10 NLT

The thing is, we all come into this world with an empty space, and we all need that one thing that will satisfy us. It only gets bigger as we experience the depths of brokenness in this world. So, what is the thing that satisfies? Jesus. From the beginning, we were meant to live connected to God, and apart from Him, we are left with a gaping hole inside of us. Jesus came to save us, and in so doing, He brought us back to God.

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, ”

      1 Peter 3:18

The loneliness stems from this empty place, that only Christ can fill. The amazing thing is, while we are searching for anything, and everything in this world to fill that space, God is with us. We are never alone, not even when we feel the deepest pains of loneliness, where there seems no way to fill the void. God is there! He is a God who is motivated and moved by love because He is love. Every day of our lives He is in pursuit. Pursuit to save us, to bring us near Him, in order to make us whole, and bring us home.

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!”

Psalm 139:7-8

This is a truth that sets us free to live awakened and aware of the presence of God. This presence not only fills us but fuels us as well. It is from this place of wholeness, in His presence, that we walk by faith, choose with wisdom, and love as we are loved. We are free to know the God who was always there, is there now, and is faithful to always be by our side. We are not alone!

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:14
