Let Love Flow
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. 5 It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. 6 It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. 7 Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
8 Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away.
Have you ever watched water flow and fall from a mountain top? Waterfalls are beautiful and that beauty never ends, it flows and flows. The continual flow of that water replenishes the dry land and what is left is a beautiful pool of water. Love is clearly defined in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 but in reality is very difficult to do. In 1 John 4:19, we see that love comes from God first; “ We love because he first loved us.” God is love and it is His Spirit within us that allows true and pure love to flow and flow freely. There are times that we hinder that flow of love, due to pain or unmet expectations, but Love is meant to be given without condition and it is in the example of Christ that we see this truth. 1 John 4:10 says, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [that is, the atoning sacrifice, and the satisfying offering] for our sins [fulfilling God’s requirement for justice against sin and placating His wrath].” Love was freely given to us and is ours to soak up and live by. If we can truly recognize the complete love of Christ then we will love others, and not because we have to but because we get to. Live out your life with an overflowing abundance of love!
