Run Your Race

Hebrews 12:1-2 AMP

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What are we doing with the great life that has so generously been given to us? As Christians, we believe completely in the promise of eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ! But do we truly understand that we can live out our eternal life right now? Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. This doesn’t mean that we won’t ever experience difficulties and pain. It simply means we’ll be able to recognize His glory and power throughout any situation that will firmly restore our faith and hope. In John 14:27 Jesus says, “ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This is the eternal life we can live today.

Sounds easy right? Wrong! Applying an eternal perspective to your everyday life requires steadfast faith, hard work and determination. Much like an athlete training for a marathon, giving up is not an option. The good news is Jesus has already run the race and won! Through the Holy Spirit he lives within us and by this we are equipped for anything. I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13). This will not be easy and we may feel too weak at times to continue, but we are reassured by Jesus in Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Now is the time! The time to embrace this great life and boldly live out our eternal promises. So, let us suit up and run the race that is set before us!

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of life and for your promise to be with us always. We are so grateful that you have gone before us making a way. Lord, continue to open our eyes to Your presence as we surrender to good and perfect will. We ask that You strengthen and equip us to live more boldly and move in greater faith.  Always for Your glory, Amen
