The Greatest Gift

                                                                                    The Greatest Gift

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”

                                                                                 2 Corinthians 9:15

Christmas brings us deep into the season of giving. I know for me I am prepared to deliver, what I feel our the greatest gifts for my friends and family. This is such an exciting time, but I can’t help realizing why this excitement and joy is so overwhelming to me. The excitement stems from the root meaning of Christmas and how the world was given the greatest gift ever.  This gift was not something we made, bought, or something we can give to our friends and family. The greatest gift comes from God and is the life giving source of all that overwhelming joy that is recognized on Christmas and remembered all year long. This great gift comes through the one who restores, redeems and saves us through grace ( Ephesians 2:8 ). Jesus was and is that Great Gift! Through Him we are given life and that life changes us, not just for a moment in time, but for all time. In James 1:17, we see that all good and perfect things come from the perfect and good God of light. The birth of Jesus brought down that good and perfect light to live among us, and to serve a purpose of leading all of us to live in the presence of His beautiful light for ever. Here we are celebrating what God has given us, Jesus, the greatest gift of all time. This gift not only reigned above us and lived among us, this gift is now the power that lives within us! Now, I say with all Joy and Excitement, thanks be to God for His beautiful and perfect gift of life! Live it Out!

Christmas time is the time of year to refocus our hearts on the gracious gift that God has given to us, and it is through celebration that we demonstrate our joy for the gift of Jesus. However,  the celebration can at times overtake and distract us from the heartfelt meaning of Christmas. So, what can we do to stay in tune and focused on Jesus? Just like our daily lives, the best way to stay connected to God is through His word and Prayer. Other than the usual tradition of hustle and bustle, we can add some quality time reading scripture, preparing our hearts and reflecting on the Hope, Peace, Joy and Love that all stems from the birth of Jesus.

I have come to love the Season of Advent and have made it a family tradition that I share with friends as well. There are many ways you can actively participate in Advent, but the two I have adopted into our family are the Advent Candle Wreath and The Jesse Tree. If you are searching for a way to stay connected to Jesus this Christmas Season look into incorporating a new tradition that will provide daily reminders of this blessed season and the most the incredible gift ever, Jesus!
