Simply Be

“for in him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, for we are indeed his offspring.”  Acts 17:28

Here we are again, at the end of a year looking forward with hopeful expectations for the New Year to come. We set out with the greatest intentions to set new goals, resolutions or define that one inspirational word that we’ll live by throughout the year. A resolution is defined as, a firm decision to do or not to do something. When we choose one word, we are aiming for an overall theme that will lead us to a better life, a better us.

Have you thought about your “Resolution”, or “One Word” yet?  Which ever you choose, its purpose is to drive positive change in your life. By doing this, we expect to grow in ways where we can become more and more like we were meant to be. This is what I call living out our “authentic Life”.  In order for us to truly live our authentic life we must know what that life is, who created it and for what purpose? Genesis 1:27, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” We are God’s creation and it is in Him that we find our identity.

We are created in the image of God and we are meant to live that identity out, but with the brokenness within us and the sin that surrounds us it becomes difficult to “Simply Be”. God did not leave us in the dark though, He sent us light and that light is Jesus (John 8:12). Through our faith in Jesus we know that we are made new, and in 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says,  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”.  This is a great verse to remember at the beginning of every New Year. Why? Because we can start again with hopeful expectations of growth that leads us to live up to our Identity in Him.

This year try something New! Aim for becoming more authentically you! The you that is rooted in Christ and fully known by God (1 Corinthians 13:12). So how can we do this? Below are three suggestions that can help you start out the New Year.

1. Immerse yourself in the Great “I AM”

  • Seek God daily through quiet time and prayer.
  • Read and study His life giving word, on your own, in groups and always in His presence.

2. Listen, Learn and Let Go

  • As you pray, read and study, listen to what God is saying through the Holy Spirit.
  • We learn and grow when we choose to abide in Jesus and in the perfect word of God. We must listen and take      it to heart in order to learn. Choose Him daily!
  • Let go of what holds you back from growing in His perfect will. This is where we surrender completely and            submit to His plan and purpose. Trust Him it is all good! He is all good!

3. Move in Faith

  • Step out to where God calls you. You may be fearful but faith tells us He is with us and we can live this out!

As you embark on the New Year make it a point to become the best you that you can be! Remember that it is in Him that we live, move and have our being. So, just Simply Be and live it out!
